Historical presentations at Mormon State Historic Park on Saturday, June 23
Nevada State Parks invites the public to enjoy a day of free historical presentations at Mormon Station State Historic Park on Saturday, June 23. The outdoor presentations, under large shade trees, will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 4 p.m in Genoa, Nevada.

Nevada State Parks invites the public to enjoy a day of free historical presentations at Mormon Station State Historic Park on Saturday, June 23. The outdoor presentations, under large shade trees, will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. Each presentation is approximately 30 to 45 minutes long, with time for questions at the end. Bring lawn chairs, but please leave pets at home. The following is a schedule of the presentations:
- 10 a.m. – Cindy Southerland, Cemeteries of Carson City and Carson Valley
- 11:30 a.m. – Doris Dwyer, Chautauqua presentation of Margaret Breen (Donner Party Survivor)
- 1 p.m. – Bob Stewart, Friends of Mark Twain
- 2:30 p.m. – Fred Horlacher, The Stevens-Townsend-Murphy Party, the first wagon train into California in 1844.
Members of the Truckee Meadows and Sierra Nevada Mormon Pioneers will also be on-site demonstrating rope making, Dutch-oven cooking, musket firing, pioneer toys, and pioneer tools.
WHEN: Saturday, June 23, 2012 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
WHERE: Mormon Station State Historic Park, in Genoa , a 20 minute drive from Carson City, via U.S Highway 395, and 20 minutes from South Lake Tahoe, via state Route 207 and Foothill Road. Genoa is approximately a one hour drive south of Reno via U.S. Highway.
WHO: This event is open to the public. Two of the speakers are sponsored by the Nevada Humanities Committee and their presentations are made possible by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
COST: Museum admission is $1 for adults; children 12 and under are free. Historical presentations are free.

The Nevada Division of State Parks plans, develops and maintains a system of parks and recreation areas for the use and enjoyment of more than 3.3 million visitors a year. The division was established in 1963 by the Nevada Legislature to form a new state park agency within the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The division manages and maintains 25 parks, historic sites and recreation areas in Nevada.
