Ready, set, go! The Tahoe Bike Challenge is this week and next—June 4 through 15. Register for free at Tahoe Bike Challenge 2012 so you and your miles can be counted with the 2012 totals. The event goals for 2012 are: 1,000 registered bicyclists, 100 teams, 10,000 trips made by bikes and 30,000 total miles traveled. Participants can log miles and trips at any time during the challenge.
"The Tahoe Bike Challenge is not a competition,” says Ty Polastri, event organizer and Executive Director of the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition. “It’s a personal and environmental health initiative defined by participants who choose to ride their bike instead of burning fossil fuels to travel,” he says. Polastri organizes the event in coordination with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency each year. The Challenge is hosted Basin-wide and the objective is to motivate people to ride a bike on common routes—work, school, play, and errands—in lieu of driving. Information and registration are also at TahoeBike.org.
